To Coaster


Following our feedback session last week, I decided to head in a slightly different direction than I originally planned, and focus on the idea of decorative nesting coasters. To achieve this, I have three separate pieces that will attach be attached to each coaster. 


The top piece acts as a lip for the coaster while simultaneously nesting into the bottom ring. This allows for seamless stacking that will fit each coaster close together, with the bottom ring acting as an extra support for the hollow design on top. 


To make these in real life, I will be using mirrored teal acrylic. This allows the subtle design to feel luxe and decorative while still being functional. The pattern I have used is based on traditional Japanese geometric patterns.

Castle: In The Clouds V2

After last weeks class, I made some revisions to my castle project. I added a more structural base, and changed the way that I created the clouds as a response to critiques received during class. Rather than stretching one patch of spheres into clouds, I create several cloud structures and layered them with more intention, creating a more realistic result.  In comparison, here is last weeks.  In the spirit of trying to make a very unrealistic castle seem somewhat plausible, I changed the materials used in the project as well. This castle uses glass blocks as it's base, pink stucco for the towers, and in the spirit of fantasy, it features gold gilded towers, roof, and window trim. The stars use a variety of metal colours with varying roughness and texture. Voxel: A Barbie Coded U-Haul

 For my first Rhino project, I attempted to make a (pink) U-Haul out of voxels.  Though not obviously summery, I did spend my summer moving from Saskatoon to Calgary.  I focused on familiarizing myself with the Gumball tool, using that to place my 1 by 1 cubes in space, copy them, and create. My real U-Haul wasn't pink, but when given the opportunity to make something, more fun is more fun.

Castle: In The Clouds

 For our second assignment we were instructed to create a castle, though it didn't have to be a literal castle, that is the direction I chose to go in!  I experimented with using BooleanUnion to make less "strict" shapes. I began with creating a sphere with the revolve tool, creating varying sizes before joining them using BooleanUnion tool. From there, I was able to take my blocks of clouds, copying and rotating them for their various applications.  To create the divots in the moon, I used the BooleanDifference tool, placing small spheres where I felt the moon needed texture then removing them from the surface of the moon. The gold posts were created using the loft tool, while the main towers were extruded from basic shapes.     To place the windows on the main tower I used the rotate tool, and experimented with the "patch" tool to create the rounded window surface.
